Welcome to the Department of Physics
The Department of Physics offers bachelor's and master's study programs in physics, geophysics, meteorology and climate physics, and for the education of physics teachers. Research at the department can be divided into five major topics: Particle and Astroparticle Physics, Quantum Materials and Systems, Optics and Photonics, Geophysics, Meteorology and Climate Physics.

The IceCube experiment for measuring cosmic neutrinos is undergoing a significant upgrade of the detector. The Institute for Astroparticle Physics at KIT is playing an important role in the international experiment.

In an interview entitled "What holds the world together at its core", Dean Prof. Milada Mühlleitner talks about the ideas and questions of particle physics and her enthusiasm for physics.

With support from the European Innovation Council's Pathfinder programme, researchers at the Physikalisches Institut are working on a "quantum transducer" that will enable a connection between spin states and polarization states.
