Welcome to the Department of Physics
The Department of Physics offers bachelor's and master's study programs in physics, geophysics, meteorology and climate physics, and for the education of physics teachers. Research at the department can be divided into five major topics: Particle and Astroparticle Physics, Quantum Materials and Systems, Optics and Photonics, Geophysics, Meteorology and Climate Physics.

Prof. Torben Ferber has been awarded the Teaching Prize of the Physics Department 2026 in recognition of his commitment and use of new methods in the course "Programming and Algorithms".

A cooperation with significant participation of the KIT has succeeded in achieving nuclear spin quantum coherence with a lifetime of up to two milliseconds. This is a step towards molecular components for future quantum technologies.
