The Department of Physics offers bachelor's and master's study programs in physics, geophysics, meteorology and climate physics, and for the education of physics teachers. Research at the department can be divided into five major topics: Particle and Astroparticle Physics, Quantum Materials and Systems, Optics and Photonics, Geophysics, Meteorology and Climate Physics.

Traveling wave parametric amplifiers are an approach for reading out qubits in quantum computers as non-invasively as possible. A Franco-German project team coordinated by KIT has achieved decisive improvements in this area.

The KIT Department of Physics is looking forward to a special event on October 30 at 17:00 in the Heinrich Hertz Lecture Hall: The groundbreaking work of physicist Heinrich Hertz will be honored and KIT will be awarded as "Historic Site" by the European Physical Society.
