EPS Historic Site - Heinrich Hertz

The KIT-Department of Physics is looking forward to a unique event on October 30, 2025 at 17:00 in the Heinrich Hertz Lecture Hall (building 10.11)

As part of a ceremony organized by the Department of Physics, the groundbreaking work of physicist Heinrich Hertz will be particularly honored on October 30, 2025 at 17:00 in today's Heinrich Hertz Lecture Hall. It was here that Heinrich Hertz carried out a series of ingenious experiments that enabled him to observe electromagnetic waves for the first time in 1886. This successful test of the laws of electromagnetism marked a groundbreaking event in the history of physics and engineering. Hertz's research not only laid the foundation for the development of technologies that characterize our modern societies, but also made the excellence of the physical sciences in Karlsruhe known.

To honor the crucial role of Heinrich Hertz's research and his lasting influence on the diverse and creative research environment here on site, the Heinrich Hertz Lecture Hall will be named a 'Historic Site' of the European Physical Society (EPS) during a ceremony. The program of the ceremony with its diverse contributions, including a demonstration of his measurements with an original experimental setup, is available at https://indico.kit.edu/event/5178/

We look forward to a large audience at this exciting and interesting ceremony.
